Family Law
Family Law Information
Family is often the most important part of your life. When a legal matter may affect your family you need a dedicated, diligent attorney to advocate for you.
The attorney you choose to represent you must become familiar with the most intimate aspects of your life.To accomplish this level of familiarity, your attorney will need to know details about your relationships and finances.
Open, honest communication is the cornerstone of advocacy. We keep you updated and informed to ensure your desired outcome is the primary focus. Our compassionate approach to family law develops the trust necessary to allow you to feel comfortable as we work diligently on your behalf.
We currently limit our involvement in family law issues to family offices, guardianships, and prenuptial/postnuptial agreements. At this time, we therefore do not represent individuals in matters such as divorce, property division disputes, spousal support, child support, emancipations, relocations, and custody issues.
Family Office Management
Families with substantial accumulated wealth often form a “family office” which is private organization that manages the family’s assets, investments, trusts, and handles other financial and legal services.
This organization seeks to simplify the management of the family wealth by hiring an executive to provide for each family member’s general lifestyle, travel, and personal assistance needs.
We provide counsel on the financial aspects attendant to representing these important family entities. We help clients to analyze succession issues and to resolve complicated legal challenges in accordance with their personal goals.
We collaborate seamlessly with other family members and outside advisors to support their efforts and to minimize family strife.
Guardianships
We understand how important obtaining the legal ability to become the caretaker for those you care about can be to you and your family. We can help you secure guardianship or a minor or of an incapacitated adult.
We begin by carefully determining if a guardianship is the appropriate legal remedy for your circumstances. There may be a simpler solution than seeking to become a court appointed guardian.
If a guardianship is necessary, then we help you fulfill your role as a fiduciary, navigating the numerous responsibilities and requirements that will be required of you.Guardians are required to act in the best interest of the person in need, and certain actions taken by the Guardian may need court approval.
We guide you through every step of the guardianship petition, any court hearings, and the regular financial reporting requirements. Guardians are regularly required to report to the court concerning the finances and property of the person in need.
Nuptial Agreements
We approach prenuptial/postnuptial agreements differently than most law firms. Most couples, even with substantial differences in assets, want one thing from a nuptial agreement: that what was each person’s property before the marriage remain that person’s property after the marriage.
While each couple puts its unique touches on this form of agreement, the basics remain the same. Many attorneys seek to distort this arrangement and seek to turn the nuptial agreement into a fight as to who can get the better deal from the other party.
Rather than creating conflict and acting like you are getting divorced, we approach nuptial agreements more like a contract where both parties see value in the agreement. This more transactional approach often involves much less stress than an adversarial approach as you make all the other preparations for your wedding, which are often stressful enough.
